Comparison

QR Island vs QRCode Monkey: a fair comparison

Both make free, static QR codes that never expire, with your logo, and neither needs an account for that. They differ in file formats, code types, privacy and what happens around the code. Here’s the comparison as of October 2026, from each site’s own pages, including where QRCode Monkey is the better pick.

Where QRCode Monkey is the better pick

  • Free gradients. Linear and radial colour gradients are free there; on QR Island they come with the Island pack.
  • More free code types. MeCard, ready-made Facebook, Twitter and YouTube types, and Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Litecoin and Dash addresses. QR Island has nine types, and makes social links with the Link type.
  • EPS and PDF downloads, for print workflows that need them, though only for the classic black-and-white code. QR Island has no EPS; its free print sheet can be saved as a PDF from the browser.
  • A developer API and a template gallery. QR Island’s API is still on a waitlist.

Where QR Island is different

  • Your code on a 3D island. Pick one of 25 worlds and the code becomes its courtyard, with a free island picture for posts and print sizes and a video in the Island pack. See the 3D QR code generator.
  • Made in your browser. Links, Wi‑Fi passwords and contact details you type for a free code never reach our server, and the page has no ads, ad trackers or cookies for visitors.
  • Scan checks as you design. A light colour gets a warning and a darker shade in one click, a design phones can’t read waits for a fix before download, and a logo is kept within half of each block’s error correction.
  • Editable codes built in. One yearly price per code, tax included, with no account: a private manage link changes the destination and shows daily scan totals. See the dynamic QR code generator.
  • A print sheet at true sizes, from your code’s smallest safe size up, each with roughly how far away it scans.
  • WhatsApp codes as their own type, with the number checked for a missing country code.

One thing QR Island’s free files have that you should know about: a small “Made with QR Island” line under the code. The Island pack’s print files have none.

Which should you use?

For a plain, classic code in EPS, a crypto address, or a free gradient, QRCode Monkey does the job well. For a code that looks like part of your brand’s world, a print sheet that tells you how small you can go, or a code you may need to repoint later from the same place, try QR Island. Both are free for static codes, so the quickest test is to make the same code in each and scan the printouts.
