Comparison

QR Island vs QR Code Generator: a fair comparison

QR Code Generator (qr-code-generator.com, part of Bitly) is built for teams that run many dynamic codes. QR Island is built around free codes and one-off Editable codes, set on 3D islands. Here’s how they compare as of October 2026, from each site’s own pages, including where QR Code Generator is the better pick.

Euro prices before VAT, as its pricing page showed them to us; visitors elsewhere may see other currencies. Enterprise plans are priced on request. The 14-day trial needs no card, includes up to 250 dynamic codes, bulk upload and the API, and doesn’t turn into a paid plan by itself.

When you stop paying

Every dynamic code depends on its company’s forwarding, so this matters more than the monthly price:

  • QR Code Generator: when the trial ends, its help centre says dynamic codes are deactivated and point to a service page, while static codes keep working; upgrading reactivates them. After a paid plan is cancelled, dynamic codes keep working until the paid period ends and for 30 more days without editing, then the account is locked and they go to a service page.
  • QR Island: an Editable code keeps forwarding to the end of the paid year and for a 14-day grace period after it; then scanning shows a page saying the code needs renewing, and a new yearly subscription switches the same printed code back on. Free codes don’t depend on us at all.

Where QR Code Generator is the better pick

  • Many dynamic codes. 50 dynamic codes on Advanced cost €180.00 a year before VAT, far less per code than one QR Island Editable code each. For a business with dozens of codes, that matters.
  • Deeper statistics: location, time and operating system for each scan, with CSV export. QR Island deliberately records only a daily total.
  • Bulk creation, an API, team seats, folders and custom domains for agencies and larger companies.
  • More code types, including hosted landing pages for PDFs, app downloads and feedback forms. QR Island links to a PDF you host yourself.
  • A longer wind-down after cancelling a paid plan: 30 days after the paid period, against QR Island’s 14-day grace period.

Where QR Island is different

  • The free code is the whole product for most people: your logo, shapes and colours, and PNG and SVG downloads, with no account, no trial and no email address.
  • One code, one price. An Editable code is a single yearly price, tax included, with the Island pack’s print files, island pictures and video in it, and no plan to outgrow.
  • Privacy by design. Free codes are made in your browser, and an Editable code’s counts store nothing about the people who scan.
  • Your code on a 3D island, with 25 worlds to choose from. See the 3D QR code generator.
  • Checks while you design: colour warnings with a darker shade in one click, and a design phones can’t read waits for a fix before download.

Which should you use?

If you manage many dynamic codes, need per-scan analytics, bulk creation, an API or a team, QR Code Generator is built for that. If you need a few good-looking codes, most of them free and the odd one editable, with no account to manage and no trial clock, QR Island is the simpler fit. Our guide to static vs dynamic QR codes helps decide whether you need a dynamic code at all.
